Existing System

Current system of meter reading is the manual one. One person from dept. comes and writes down (or take photograph) the reading of each and every meter. then this reading is manually feed into the ERP software of the electricity department. Bill is generated and again a person comes to deliver its physical copy. If you not pay the bill on time then again a person comes to CUT-OFF your supply. After paying all the dues, one more time its manually reconnected by a person. So the entire manual billing cycle gives us opportunity to develop automatic meter reading system.

Drawbacks of Existing System

Being the manual system there are space open for manual errors like writing wrong reading, typing error while entering the reading in system.
Malpractices are possible to reduce the bill amount. The person who writes the meter reading can take bribe and write lower reading than the actual one.
A huge amount of money is spent as the salary of the persons employed for this.
This system is very much time consuming.

Our Proposed System

In our proposed system, we will be doing modifications in the existing meter (Gov. will provide meter with our loaded features) and the central server software will also be update. The idea is to connect each & every electric meter directly to the central PC either using zigbee wireless mesh network OR IOT based connection. At the end of the month the server automatically sends a ping command requesting each meter to send there respective readings. once reading is wirelessly connected, bill will be generated and will be sent to consumers via SMS OR EMAIL services. If bill is not paid within time, the system automatically sends CUT-OFF command to the defaulter meters. The embedded software at meter side switches-off the relay disconnecting the power supply. Similarly it is again resumed after successful payment.
